Term four inquiry

                                            Passions

This term for inquiry we have been focusing on technology and the design process you have to go through to get your finished product at the level you want it at. I choose to be part of the clay relic group. My passion is dancing so I made a flat surface in the shape of an oval and on it I wrote, love to dance with a love heart for the word love and the A in dance. I then cut up my piece to create the broken relic affect.

Camp:

Tough Guy Challenge:

Malevolently cackling, he trickles down my leg. Taking revenge, the mud grabs at my heels.
“ Whahaha,” his menacing voice echoes inside my head.

Pulling and pulling the mud hauls me into the murky depths. This is it , the Tough Guy Challenge has begun!

Thank you to all the parents, Mrs Strathern, Mrs Hobbs and Mr Gemmell for making this all possible.

Moari Myths and legends

Gracie and I found this myth very interesting, although it was quite hard to write the script. There were a lot of bumps along the way, but we made it in the end. Thank you Reese for filming our video, we really appreciate it. Please enjoy!!!

Choices for life
This year our production was called Choices For Life. It was all about making the right choices and using our integrity.
I auditioned  to be an Adventurer, but I was very nervous auditioning and I ended up being a talking (and walking) tree!

It was very hard to choreograph our own dance because no one cooperated + our dance had to be very slow and tree like.
We got there in the end (with the help of Mrs Hobbs!).

It was very fun doing dress rehearsals, our costumes were amazing. Although it took a long time to get through everything, I loved when it was my time to shine on stage.

On the actual night I had butterflies in my stomach, I was so nervous. Once I got started I had a lot of fun. Thank you Mrs Strathern, Mrs Hobbs and Mr Gemmell for making this all possible.

                                           Witches Film Essay

By Isla

Roald Dahl's novel The Witches (published 1983) comes alive in the film The Witches, directed by Nicolas Roeg in 1990. Roeg uses special camera techniques such as over the shoulder, extreme close up, wide angle shot and low angle to help us understand the film, The Witches.

One of many techniques Roeg uses is extreme close up. He uses this to bring us close to the action to increase the tension. An example of this is when all the witches are in the conference room and the
Grand High Witch takes off her mask revealing her extremely ugly nose. This shot makes us feel uncomfortable and makes us want to lean back in our seat, to get away from danger.

Roeg uses the wide angle shot to set the scene, he uses this shot at the beginning of the film and he shows  us where the Grandmother lives. This makes us feel safe and far away from any danger.

Another technique Roeg uses is the low angle shot. Roeg uses this shot to show that the boy in his tree hut has authority over the witch. For this shot the camera is placed on the ground and is looking up.

Roeg uses close up several times in the film, The Witches. This shot focuses on one object and blurs out the background, this making us feel slightly uncomfortable. An example of this is when the Grandmother first sees the witches eyes at the hotel.

Roeg uses these cinematic devices and many more to help us have a better understanding of the film, The Witches.

      Kumara

Ready to take his revenge, he sat on my lonely plate. My opponent was of to a good start. I tried to make my next move, but my hand just dodged the plate. I heard my sisters giggle behind cupped hands, at my weak attempt to knock out the unforgiving competitor. Noticing my forlorn look, the challenger cackled knowingly. He, the kumara had won.

My Speech

you are stranded on the beach. Hurt. Soul overcast and excruciating pain. beating in your ears is the soft rhythm of the sea. your eyes closing you wonder…
was life ever worth living?

Marine life and seabirds are always living their last moments
on the beach, or even just in their habitat due to, over Fishing, pollution and obviously plastic.

Marine life and seabirds are often found suffering from plastic in there stomach. At least 100, 000 sea mammals and 1 million seabirds are dying every year because of this. It's true.

Fish are one of the most affected… presently we are
eating 19 kilograms of fishPer person per year compared to 1960 when we were only eating 9 Kilograms. But this is not the only cause…

Pollution generates harmful gasses, harming not just the ocean but the wildlife living there.Pesticides are a major source of water pollutant. Diedrin (a pesticide) is very harmful to fish. Making a very harsh end to a fish’s life. Plastic also makes a end to an unrespected fish's life.

Some people might argue that humans have the right to use
plastic bags. Yes, they are convenient and easy to use.
What's not to like about them. Well, you can't get rid of them,
for plastic bags are photogradable. Photogradable means they slowly break down in sunlight. And did you know, every day ships discard 5.5 million ton. Simply adding to the 5.25
trillion pieces of plastic in the ocean.

Humans are not treating the ocean with the respect it needs don't just burn old plastic bottles reuse them. For instance, put an old zip in the middle now you have a new pencil
case. Reusing plastic bags will reduce the amount of plastic in the ocean.

The world is not doing enough to protect the ocean if we aren't careful there will be no more fish to eat and we will all end up eating dads stew for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

 Butterfly

Perching on a leaf, she whimpers.
Sorrowfully looking down, sighing.
Scissor cut wings flutter dullfully midair.
Stars whirl around, like a tornado.
Her eyes open, she looks around.
Although just a blur, she figured she fell.
Eventually a puddle crowds her feet.
Drooping,her antennae sulk.
Above her head a cloud huddles.

Koru Art

 Koru Art
At the beginning of this year we used pastels to create koru art. I am in tui so I used green. The hammer head represents strength and the korus represent house captains caring for the little ones.

                                      Learning conference

I got a lot out of my learning conference. I think I could have been a little more organised, for I had not double checked my spelling mistakes. Click the link below to see my finished learning conference.
