      Kumara

Ready to take his revenge, he sat on my lonely plate. My opponent was of to a good start. I tried to make my next move, but my hand just dodged the plate. I heard my sisters giggle behind cupped hands, at my weak attempt to knock out the unforgiving competitor. Noticing my forlorn look, the challenger cackled knowingly. He, the kumara had won.

My Speech

you are stranded on the beach. Hurt. Soul overcast and excruciating pain. beating in your ears is the soft rhythm of the sea. your eyes closing you wonder…
was life ever worth living?

Marine life and seabirds are always living their last moments
on the beach, or even just in their habitat due to, over Fishing, pollution and obviously plastic.

Marine life and seabirds are often found suffering from plastic in there stomach. At least 100, 000 sea mammals and 1 million seabirds are dying every year because of this. It's true.

Fish are one of the most affected… presently we are
eating 19 kilograms of fishPer person per year compared to 1960 when we were only eating 9 Kilograms. But this is not the only cause…

Pollution generates harmful gasses, harming not just the ocean but the wildlife living there.Pesticides are a major source of water pollutant. Diedrin (a pesticide) is very harmful to fish. Making a very harsh end to a fish’s life. Plastic also makes a end to an unrespected fish's life.

Some people might argue that humans have the right to use
plastic bags. Yes, they are convenient and easy to use.
What's not to like about them. Well, you can't get rid of them,
for plastic bags are photogradable. Photogradable means they slowly break down in sunlight. And did you know, every day ships discard 5.5 million ton. Simply adding to the 5.25
trillion pieces of plastic in the ocean.

Humans are not treating the ocean with the respect it needs don't just burn old plastic bottles reuse them. For instance, put an old zip in the middle now you have a new pencil
case. Reusing plastic bags will reduce the amount of plastic in the ocean.

The world is not doing enough to protect the ocean if we aren't careful there will be no more fish to eat and we will all end up eating dads stew for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

 Butterfly

Perching on a leaf, she whimpers.
Sorrowfully looking down, sighing.
Scissor cut wings flutter dullfully midair.
Stars whirl around, like a tornado.
Her eyes open, she looks around.
Although just a blur, she figured she fell.
Eventually a puddle crowds her feet.
Drooping,her antennae sulk.
Above her head a cloud huddles.

Koru Art

 Koru Art
At the beginning of this year we used pastels to create koru art. I am in tui so I used green. The hammer head represents strength and the korus represent house captains caring for the little ones.

I got a lot out of my learning conference. I think I could have been a little more organised, for I had not double checked my spelling mistakes. Click the link below to see my finished learning conference.

   Integrity games By Isla
Adrenaline pumping, the 5 and 6 year olds await their next game. Hungry for fun and some bored. We modeled and gave examples. Now it was time...

I tried to ciece their attention for they were forgetting to run back the skipping ropes. Like an ice-cream toppling over they fell off the stilts. Going around the bending poles and after that jumping into the hula hoops. “change direction”.

Group after group came while the other group we were paired up with had their rotation, me and Reese set up.

Although hard work I enjoyed the challenge and I am hoping we get to make integrity games next year.

The Bike Trip

            The Bike Trip
                                 By Isla

My legs yawned. They were tired and so was I.
But I kept going. I hopped off, there was no way I was
staying on. After I turned I hopped back on, I got scared so I
biked at my
own pace. Slow.

Everyone took over me, I hopped off a lot as I was scared
going down hill. Oh no. My chain had come off and my eyes
started to fog up. Although someone helped me a tear
dribbled down my face.

In the end I made it back, panting but glad. Lily was waiting
ready to greet me.
“Do you want to go again?”
I smiled. This time round I was much more confident and
only hopping off sometimes.

Blue by Isla
Blue is the colour of tears
Jogging slowly down my face
It is the water trickling
Into my gumboots

Blue is burning water
Getting ready to pounce
It is the fridge
Leaking onto the floor

Blue is squashed blueberries
Beneath your feet
It is your frozen hands
Beneath weak gloves

Blue is not a happy colour

                                               Art

This term we have been doing art as our topic. We had pick a message to show in each of our pieces of art. my message is stop killing animals just for there horns, tusks and there fur. These are some of the types of art we have been doing:
starry night
cubism
photography
graffiti
and a choice of our own

starry night;
we had to recreate Vincent van goghs starry night. To do this we had to use small strokes and put our message in the bottom half of the picture.

photography;
we had to take a picture of some thing that showed our message clearly. This is my photo:

`we got to choose a style/artist and copy it but we also had to give it our own twist.

Graffiti:
we had to choose an effective word to show our message and make it look like it was done  by spray.
